I will be chairing a panel this spring (March 17-20, 2016) at the Northeast Modern Language Association in Hartford, Connecticut. The theme is literature, film and culture in the 1980s, and we have some great talks lined up. Come check it out if you are at the conference!
My article, “Freaks in the Reagan Era: James Baldwin, the New Pop Cinema, and the American Ideal of Manhood,” was recently published in the June issue of The Journal of Popular Culture (it can be read here). It responds to James Baldwin’s 1985 essay “Freaks and the American Ideal of Manhood” (alternately titled “Here Be Dragons”). If you haven’t had a chance to read Baldwin’s essay, it is available in this great collection.
